Holistic Pelvic Care is a modality created by Tami Kent, a physical therapist of Portland, OR. In HPC, both physical and energetic tools are used to asses the pelvic area of women of all ages. The intention is to holistically restore balance and bring more awareness to this space that can so often be ignored or undervalued. The pelvis is an energetic "bowl" that stores a lot - both energetically and physically. Regular maintenance of the pelvic space, or the root, can assist in overall wellness for a woman. The primary goal of HPC, in the words of Tami Kent, is to "empower a woman to inhabit her pelvic space and occupy her feminine ground physically, energetically, emotionally & spiritually". After experiencing the magic of this profound work, I am so inspired to offer HPC to women of all walks of life. I provide a safe container to explore, improve, and restore pelvic harmony. This modality is performed using a hands-on technique that gently guides a woman to reconnect with her creative center. I am happy to clarify or answer questions.
HPC is beneficial for women of all ages and has the following general positive effects:
  • increase blood flow and energy
  • reclaim pelvic space after birth
  • recover from birth
  • support bodies natural healing potential
  • access creative potential

  • clear pelvic congestion
  • improve sexual health and libido
  • prepare for pregnancy
  • support healing after miscarriage or loss
  • heal trauma and restore ownership
  • establish clear energetic boundaries
  • encourage self care
  • decrease stress
What to expect before, during, and after your session:
Before your HPC session, I ask that you come in for a general bodywork session so that we can begin working together in a more broad way. This also gives us the opportunity to discuss how HPC will benefit you and how you will obtain your doctor's note. I will also ask you to fill out a health intake form which I will review during your initial session.

When you come in for your first session, you can expect to be compassionately heard and cared for. I am gentle and slow in my approach, and wish only for your highest good. We will work with solid communication between us and you are always in control. My touch is confident, professional, and aware. Your entire body will be covered for the session, though I will move the drape momentarily to find the right placement for my hand. The bodywork part of the session can last anywhere from 40-90 minutes depending on what we are working on.

After your session, you will want to give yourself nurturing care in whatever way possible. Try to schedule your session so that you won't have to rush off to work or pick up your children. Sometimes this is impossible to avoid, so better to have the session either way. Just a helpful suggestion. Also, you will want to hydrate well to assist in the process of moving toxins out of your body. You may feel sore for up to 72 hours after your session - this is normal as the trigger point and myofascial work will continue to move through your body.
Sessions can be done as often as weekly. I recommend committing to a series of 3-6 sessions to see the most benefit.

*Special note: This work can bring up strong emotions for some women, and, especially if you have a history of trauma, it is a good idea to work with a mental health specialist in conjunction with HPC. I am happy to give referrals.
Laws governing Holistic Pelvic Care
As per Rule .0516 of North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy, a licensed massage therapist may provide intra-vaginal soft tissue manipulation within the following parameters:
  • The client must provide a written prescription or order from a licensed medical doctor for intra-vaginal soft tissue manipulation. If you need help obtaining a doctor's note, I can help refer you to a supportive practitioner.
  • You have the option of having a third party present in the room during your treatment. Feel free to bring someone with you or ask me about providing someone for your session. We can discuss before your appointment.
  • The drape covering your pelvic area will be removed only with your consent and only with the purpose of addressing the pelvic space. With your permission, I momentarily lift the sheet to find my hand placement. It is replaced for the remainder of your session.
  • Protective latex gloves are used for any intra-vaginal contact. I use hypoallergenic medical exam gloves for all contact in the pelvic space.
  • All treatments are strictly non-sexual. HPC sessions are done in a professional manner with the express purpose of helping a woman to realign the muscle fibers, increase circulation, and clear congestion in the pelvic bowl.
